Multi Camera Techniques (Live TV)

Task 1

A multi camera set up is when 2 or more cameras are used during filming for a TV program/film. It is used for programs such as soap operas e.g Eastenders, Panel Shows e.g QI and is essential for live TV e.g Big Brother and Sports.

This is the basic way a multi camera set up is arranged. The two outer cameras (1&4) will be used for close-ups and the two inner (2&3) will be used for wider shots to include the surroundings of the actors.

Multi camera set ups help to save time when filming a program, and are best for filming something that is to be broadcasted soon after filming, as it reduces the amount of editing. As well as reducing the amount of time on editing, multi camera set ups allow scenes to be shot a lot quicker than a single camera set up as there is no need to change the lighting for the scene or the angle from which the camera is shooting. Multi camera set ups are vital for live TV.

Task 2

Kraftwork
The camera in the video of Kraftwork is constantly moving around using many different cameras shots. The reason the camera is never still may be because the band on stage are very robotic and their movements are limited so in order to keep the audience interested the camera replaces the movemenet of the people.
There are many different shots used in the video. Firstly a pnning shot is used simply to show the band up on stage. The way each person in the band is persitioned is unusual as they are all stood in a line, one next to the other, whereas the usual layout of a band on stage would have some of the members e.g drummer located nearer the back of the stage and the vocalist on the front. The panning shot is used to show the simple set up of the band on stage. There is also a birds eye view tracking shot used during the video, as though the camera is flying over the audience and over the stage. This helps to maintain the audiences interest as it is an unusual shot, and is very different from the more simple shots in the video. Aswell as this, the camera shot emphasises the size of the venue to the audience, which replicates the success of the band. This is also shown by an extreme long shot during the video.
Throughout the video, the camera angles are constantly changing which could represent the constant change in the sounds of the music aswell as the technicality.

Fashion
The video of the models uses a range of camera angles however is very repetitive. The first shot used is a long shot to show the audience the catwalk. it is also set at a low angle which suggests that the models are being portrayed as more important. They are the centre of attention in this video. A ped up shot is used as the main aim of this video is to advertise the fashion, so by using this camera angle, we can see everything on the model, from foot to head. Long shots are used to show the crowd in the video and how the models are slightly higher, on the catwalk again suggesting that they have more importance. Throughout the video, the camera is still on each shot. This is because the models are constantly moving therefore the camera doesn't need to make up for any stilness. At the start of filming on each model, the camera is set at eye level aswell as the end of the filming. This establishes a relationship between the audience and the model.

Task 6

Risk assessment is a process of identifying possible risks and assessing their likelihood and severity. This might lead to further action being taken.
The first risk that our production team has to deal with could be to do with the wires that are on the floor of the studio. This is a health and safety risk because someone in our team may trip or fall because of the wires on the floor. We also have to be very careful because the wires may get in the way of the positioning of the cameras.
Another risk could be to do with the heavy lights that we may be using. This could be a hazard because they may have to be moved and may be unstable so they could fall on a person. The lights also cause another problem because they are very powerful lights, so they heat up very quickly, and if a person decides to move the lights they could burn themselves. This also applies if there is paper near the lights, and they may burn, causing a fire.
Other risks that are also important and worth mentioning applies to all the media equipment that may need to unplugged, and if it is not done with care, people may be electrocuted.
Care must also be taken when the two presenters are swapping during a link. If the link isn’t long enough, the presenters may have to rush to take their seat to continue the show. And they could fall or trip on the way.

Action

Wires- take care in the media studio
Lighting- ask for help when moving the lights and make sure there is adult supervision.
Electrocution of media equipment- make sure there is adult supervision and turn the power off if need be.
Presenter swapping- make sure there is sufficient time to swap, and take care.
